I discovered the inspiration for this recipe while in Dublin, Ireland and was blown away by the delicious pairing of bacon and brie. I couldn’t resist recreating it with my own twist by adding caramelized onions for added sweetness and flavor. I suggest serving it on a hearty whole grain toast to boost fiber and nutrient content.
Ingredients
1-2 slices of your favorite whole grain bread
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
2-3 slices of cooked bacon
1 oz brie cheese
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 tsp oil
1 tsp brown sugar
Pinch of salt
Recipe Steps
- Heat oil in a medium sauté pan over medium-low heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they soften.
- Stir in the balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, and salt into the onions and continue cooking for 8-10 minutes, stirring often, until the onions are caramelized.
- Toast the bread to your preference.
- Top each slice of toast with Brie cheese, cooked bacon, and caramelized onions. Serve and enjoy!
